Neno Marinov cultivates his family vineyards together with his mother Josipa, who knows the riches and pains of the Primošten land best. Today, at 82 years old, you will still find her working in the field. It’s a truly impressive and humbling experience to see work unfold on such a demanding, rocky terroir. Their vineyards are located in several locations, and the most impressive is certainly the UNESCO-protected vineyard position of Bucavac, which is located a few meters above sea level, on a mixture of karst and red soil. Due to the abundance of sunlight and wind, the vineyards, as Neno says, simply do not need to be treated with anything during most years. It is precisely this unique Primošten terroir that gives their Babić its especially fruity, fresh, and mineral character. In the cellar, they do not follow organic nor biodynamic principles, but rather the traditional way of wine production, as their ancestors did, which, in today’s terms, means minimal interventions in the cellar.
