Marko Fon takes care of his little more than three hectares of vineyards, divided into 16 micro-locations, in the Slovenian region of Karst. This region, although less known than the neighbouring Goriška hills or the Vipava valley, possesses incredible strength and unique characteristics. The influence of the Adriatic Sea, which is only a few kilometres away, combined with the mountains that stretch parallel to the coast, creates specific conditions in which the bora wind ensures optimal air circulation between the vines. It is an untamed place that provides the vine with a multitude of positive environmental influences. Marko works only with local varieties—Malvasia, Vitovska, and Teran—because he believes that only they can grow successfully on his terroir. He shows full respect and commitment to nature and the land he cultivates. The entire work in the vineyard is performed manually, without any chemical interventions whatsoever. The macerations are short so as not to take away from the terroir experience, and the wines ripen in old barrels. They are exceptionally suited for aging!
