Behind the Piquentum winery, whose name comes from the Latin name for the town of Buzet, stands a winemaker with a rich global experience—Dimitri Brečević. Born in France, with a mother from Jurançon and a father of Istrian roots, Dimitri was introduced to viticulture at an early age. He studied oenology in Bordeaux and honed his skills in prestigious wineries, such as Domaine de Chevalier in France and Canterbury Winery in New Zealand. When a prospect arose to start his own winery on Istrian soil, he immediately seized that opportunity. Today, he grows Malvasia, Teran, and Refosco (Refošk) in the winegrowing region of Vrhuvšćina, near Buzet. His wines, which faithfully reflect the blend of tradition, a classical approach, and unique Istrian terroir, have fans all around the world, and we are happy to share them with you.
